April Edition
With the 80th anniversary of VE Day approaching and in these uncertain times, I make no apology for the ‘military’ feel of this month’s Observer. Leiston will mark the occasion with various events, there are some interesting World War II talks at the Community Centre and Leiston’s detachment of army cadets welcome new youngsters to come and learn important life skills, make friends and boost confidence.
The 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE Day) will be marked with an evening of remembrance and reflection in Leiston. The Royal British Legion Leiston brass band will be leading with a tribute followed by the lighting of the beacon at 8.30pm. Leiston Town Council would love to hear from you if you or your family members have any memories of WWII (and photos) to form a lasting record, so do get in touch.
Not generally considered the best month of the year, January was once again cheered up by another successful panto at Leiston Film Theatre. Plenty of fun for all ages as Wayne and his team graced the stage with this unique form of entertainment which has been going since the 16th century! (don’t think Wayne was performing then?) Long may this tradition continue in Suffolk’s oldest purpose-built cinema.
